Girls and boys alike have absolutely loved making Natural Products that we create at some of our Farm Kids and Mini Farmers Workshops! So… we have decided to offer a DIY Natural Products Workshop where the children get to harvest flowers and herbs and turn them into gorgeous products that’s good for them and good for the planet. We use organic products where possible.

We visit the pigs, big and small, and talk about many fun piggy facts that are both interesting and funny! We make hysterical pet pig rocks and in craft make cute piggy keyrings.

We also discuss what we can do to help. We have a demonstration of how traditional hives work, taste honeycomb and make bees wax candles.

We talk about why specific bugs are a beneficial part for our eco-system and what plants help attract these much-needed bugs. In craft we make useful butterfly and bug magnets and in cooking make bug repellent balm from natural ingredients.

We start the workshop with an educational, hands on and fun tour of The Farm followed by a discussion on herbs and edible flowers…what are medicinal foods and herbs and what are culinary herbs? Today there is lots of smelling and tasting! In craft we paint a pot and plant medicinal herb seeds and also make cute little soaps with essential oils, herbs and flower petals.

December 30th

We start the workshop with an educational, hands on and fun tour of The Farm where we specifically search for and collect seeds followed by a discussion and demonstration on Seeds, where they come from and how they grow. In craft we use the seeds we find to make a birdfeeder. We plant seeds in trays for our garden and we make macca butter from the macadamia seed (nut).

December 28th

Today we focus in on the native bee. We start the workshop with a native bee hunt through the market gardens and macadamia orchard. In craft we make a fabulous clay native bee hotel and make beeswax wraps to replace the dreaded plastic wrap.

We examine parts and purposes of flowers, we smell and taste edible flowers and learn about companion planting. We make honey piklets (please note due to Covid-19 this will be a demonstration but the kids will still get to taste). We use the eggshells from cooking to create egg people with watercress hair.
