Fridays, 9am - 3pm | Ages 5 to 12 Years
Join us on an exciting journey through the wonders of nature at our farm program for children! Over the course of this term, we'll explore eight fascinating topics that are essential for understanding and fostering sustainability in agriculture.
Starting with the mighty sun, we'll learn about its vital role in providing energy for all life on Earth, from plant growth to the water cycle. Then, we'll gaze up at the enchanting moon and discover its influence on tides, seasons, and traditional farming practices.
Water, the source of life, will captivate us as we delve into its significance in irrigation, hydration, and ecosystem balance. We'll then dig our hands into the heart of healthy, happy soil, understanding its intricate web of microorganisms crucial for plant health.
Compost will be our next stop, as we uncover the magic of turning organic waste into nutrient-rich soil amendment, closing the loop in the natural cycle of growth and decay.
In our exploration of companion planting, we'll uncover the art of pairing plants to enhance biodiversity, repel pests, and promote mutual growth.
Moving towards sustainable farming practices, we'll delve into regenerative agriculture, understanding how it nurtures soil health, sequesters carbon, and fosters resilience in the face of climate change.
Finally, we'll honour the rich indigenous perspectives of Aboriginal culture, learning from their deep connection to the land, respect for biodiversity, and holistic approach to sustainability.
By intertwining these themes, we aim to cultivate not only knowledge but also a profound appreciation for the interconnectedness of all living things and the importance of stewardship in creating a sustainable future for generations to come.
Join us as we sow the seeds of curiosity, nurture the roots of understanding, and harvest a bounty of lifelong learning in our farm program for children!

Friday 3 May - The Sun
We discuss the importance of the sun, seasons, skin protection and planting. We create sun prints and make a DIY natural sunscreen.
Friday 10 May - The Moon
We talk about the phases of the moon, tides, plants and animals. We make a clay wall hanging of the moon phases and a moon print in craft.
Friday 17 May - Water
We learn about water, life, cycles, plants, conservation and photosynthesis. We conduct a water cycle experiment and make our own iced tea with foraged herbs from the garden.
Friday 24 May - Soil
We discover types and layers of soil, its importance in sustaining life, nutrients and looking after the soil. We make worm tea and set up our new worm farm and make a poo brew for compost.
Friday 31 May - Compost
We find out compost, what can and can't go in it, how to mix it and ways to reduce landfill. We create a compost diagram and conduct a lunchbox survey.
Friday 7 June - Companion planting
We investigate which plants are friends and why, planting in the seasons, native and introduced species. We make a natural bug deterrent spray and design a companion garden art project.
Friday 14 June - Regenerative agriculture
We discuss what regenerative agriculture is, the importance of biodiversity, sustainable farm practices and the history of big scrub rainforest. We paint a seed pot and plant a seedling to take home.
Friday 21 June - Indigenous perspectives
