A unique Byron Bay farming initiative combines culinary flair with country fare. The Farm is possibly the most exciting venture to hit New South Wales’ most exciting town in more than a decade, maybe two. The 34-hectare community farm, complete with the far north coast’s best new restaurant, is located just a few metres from the busy main road into Byron Bay. In the 34 years since my family first moved to this hippie haven, I’ve never seen anything quite so … well … hippie. And it all began with a missing little girl and the dad who found her; the father who could never quite leave his childhood years behind.

The program takes children aged 5–11 on a fork journey, joining the dots between people, planet and plate. The workshops are designed to appeal to families of visitors and locals wishing to provide their children with practical life-cooking skills and want them to experience where food comes from and how they can be empowered with their choices.

Last week we brought you the news of Fleet, a trailblazing new wine bar bringing fresh flavours to Brunswick Heads. This week, it’s even more big news in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales as we turn our attention to Ewingsdale where the Three Blue Ducks crew have opened their second outpost. The 90-seat restaurant and produce store is part of The Farm – a 32-hectare property with a focus on sustainable-farming practices, designed to “grow, feed and educate” the community.
