Farm Kids Mini Farmers Program – Magic Medicinal Herbs

October 30th @ 9am – 3pm | $130 | ages 5 to 12 yrs

The kids become mini farmers and get set to work doing farm chores. Collecting eggs, checking fences, feeding animals, checking paddocks and more. They work in the Farm Kids garden, planting, weeding and harvesting. They cook, create and see where their food comes from as well as experience countless opportunities to learn about teamwork, community, natural remedies, sustainability and ethical farming practices. The program run during school term covers many curriculum concepts as we cater to many children who are home schooled.

At all our sessions our primary focus is the importance of ethical and sustainable farming practices and making healthy life choices.

All children will be expected to participate in all of the programmed activities.

We have a non structured art and craft table in the Farm House where the children can create simple pieces during the day when time permits.

Important note:  as this is a working farm and always changing, we cannot guarantee that we can do all listed activities out on The Farm (e.g. feed cows, pigs etc)

What is included?

Discussions

We focus on the healing properties of medicinal herbs and their use traditionally and currently.  We also touch on culinary herbs and edible flowers in our discussions.

We head to garden to hunt for medicinal herbs and discuss what we find.

Work on our garden plot & water seedlings

Activities

Make natural calendula ointment from scratch. Discuss its healing properties.

On our travels back from lunch we head out into the garden again to collect flowers and herbs to put into our soaps.

We make cute little soaps with essential oils, using herbs and flower petals collected from the garden and natural calendula ointment, learning about its amazing healing properties.

Rest and Play

Of course, we let the kids have breaks and rest throughout the day.
