Farm Kids Mini Farmers Program – Sustainability

November 6th @ 9am – 3pm | $130 | ages 5 to 12 yrs

The kids become mini farmers and get set to work doing farm chores. Collecting eggs, checking fences, feeding animals, checking paddocks and more. They work in the Farm Kids garden, planting, weeding and harvesting. They cook, create and see where their food comes from as well as experience countless opportunities to learn about teamwork, community, natural remedies, sustainability and ethical farming practices. The program run during school term covers many curriculum concepts as we cater to many children who are home schooled.

At all our sessions our primary focus is the importance of ethical and sustainable farming practices and making healthy life choices.

All children will be expected to participate in all of the programmed activities.

We have a non structured art and craft table in the Farm House where the children can create simple pieces during the day when time permits.

Important note:  as this is a working farm and always changing, we cannot guarantee that we can do all listed activities out on The Farm (e.g. feed cows, pigs etc)

What is included?

Discussions

Today on our Farm tour we look at and discuss how The Farm operates with sustainable methods, from composting, water catchment, sewer, crop rotation, paddock resting and organic farming practices.

We identify ways that we at home can practice sustainability. We discuss things that are and are not sustainable and look at items that do and don’t break down.

Activities

We paint a tin can and decorate with beautiful recycled paper as well we make fully recycled arty magnetic decorations. 100% recycled and sustainable craft.

We plant seeds in this can to grow at home.

Work on garden plot: planting seedlings, weeding & watering.

Collect eggs and check our chickens.

Rest and Play

Of course, we let the kids have breaks and rest throughout the day.
