Farm Kids Mini Farmers Program – Native Bees
November 13th @ 9am – 3pm | $130 | ages 5 to 12 yrs
The kids become mini farmers and get set to work doing farm chores. Collecting eggs, checking fences, feeding animals, checking paddocks and more. They work in the Farm Kids garden, planting, weeding and harvesting. They cook, create and see where their food comes from as well as experience countless opportunities to learn about teamwork, community, natural remedies, sustainability and ethical farming practices. The program run during school term covers many curriculum concepts as we cater to many children who are home schooled.
At all our sessions our primary focus is the importance of ethical and sustainable farming practices and making healthy life choices.
All children will be expected to participate in all of the programmed activities.
We have a non structured art and craft table in the Farm House where the children can create simple pieces during the day when time permits.
Important note: as this is a working farm and always changing, we cannot guarantee that we can do all listed activities out on The Farm (e.g. feed cows, pigs etc)
What is included?
Discussions
Today we focus in on the native bee. We start the workshop with a native bee hunt touring the farm checking in on the native bee hives and exploring the flower gardens to see the different bee types. Discuss the job of a native bee and all its characteristics.
We discuss how bees make wax and its uses in society.
Activities
We make a fabulous clay native bee hotel to take home.
Work on garden plot: planting seedlings to attract the bees, weeding & watering.
Collect eggs and check our chickens.
We make Beeswax wraps. Each child will decorate their own piece of fabric and then turn it into a beeswax wrap to replace the dreaded plastic wrap.

Of course, we let the kids have breaks and rest throughout the day.
