Farm Kids School Holiday Flower Workshop (part 2)
MONDAY 10TH JANUARY 2022
9.30am – 12.30pm | $70 | ages 5 to 15 yrs.
At the beginning of each workshop we take the children on an educational and fun tour of The Farm. We educate them about our cows, pigs, bees, chickens, flower crops, herb garden, orchard and veggie crops. We discuss concepts like paddock rotation for the animals, pollination, organic farming, healthy soil and composting and other ethical farming practices. The children get up close and personal with our pet chickens and when available we taste veggies, edible flowers and herbs.
Discussion
Flower walk and talk with the Flower farmers.
Collect and forage for seeds and many types of flowers and discuss their parts.
Watch closely as bees pollinate the flowers. Discuss pollination and beneficial flowers which attracted the beneficial bugs to the gardens.
Types of Flower Farms - Medicinal, flowers we eat (corn, broccoli, cauliflower etc), flowers used for décor.
Activities
Decorate and paint timber beads and make a flower keyring or bag tag
Flower collage using petals and leaves and seeds.
WHAT TO BRING
Children will need:
Sturdy walking shoes
Raincoat
Sunhat
Healthy lunch box and water bottle for the day
Backpack (to carry above)
All items need to be labelled
WHERE TO MEET
We will meet at the Farm House opposite the restaurant. Please look out for the signs to guide you.
(If coming from QLD, please be aware of time difference during day light savings!)
AGES
These workshops are appropriate for children aged 5 and older. If your child is 4 they can come with siblings and you will need to remain onsite at The Farm. Children as old as 15 have enjoyed our workshops. Checkout our Mini Farmers program if you want a full day working farm experience.
