Farm Kids School Holiday Lady Bugs Workshop
April 12th @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pm | $65 | ages 5 – 12yrs
We start the workshop with an educational, hands on and fun tour of The Farm where we specifically search for and focus our discussion on Beneficial Bugs. We talk about why specific bugs are a beneficial part for our eco-system and what plants help attract these much-needed bugs. In craft we make useful butterfly and bug magnets and in cooking make bug repellent balm from natural ingredients.
What is included?
Farm Kids tour
At the beginning of each workshop we take the children on an educational and fun tour of The Farm. We educate them about our cows, pigs, bees, chickens, flower crops, herb garden, orchard and veggie crops. We discuss concepts like paddock rotation for the animals, pollination, organic farming, healthy soil and composting and other ethical farming practices. The children get up close and personal with our pet chickens and when available we taste veggies, edible flowers and herbs.
Discussion Focus – Beneficial Bugs. We discuss what beneficial bugs are and just how important they are for our eco-system, we discuss and list what types of plants and parts of plants attract certain bugs. We go into the garden and go on a lady bug hunt and watch the little guys hard at work and investigate why companion planting helps our garden to grow without pesticides.
Craft – We make gorgeous bug magnets.
And paint a little lady bug pot and plant bug attracting flower seeds in it to take home.
