On the Farm tour today we count and name the birds we see on the farm and discuss their importance to the Ecology of the Farm and the planet.
How do birds benefit the other farm animals?
How do birds spread seeds?
What is healthy food for a bird? What is not?
What birds are farmed for their meat? Feathers?
Ethical farming and animal welfare.
What types of birds?
Activities
Children paint their own terracotta bird bath to take home to encourage birds to the garden.
We build(or rebuild) scare crows to scare away those birds we don’t want eating our crops and then place the scarecrow in the fields.
WHAT TO BRING
Children will need:
Sturdy walking shoes
Raincoat
Sunhat
Healthy lunch box and water bottle for the day
Backpack (to carry above)
All items need to be labelled
WHERE TO MEET
We will meet at the Farm House opposite the restaurant. Please look out for the signs to guide you.
AGES
These workshops are appropriate for children who are interested in farming, energetic and willing to work. 5yrs to 15yrs.
EXTRA SERVICE
If you are a working parent please discuss with the Farm Kids Manager if you need your child to start early or finish later than the designated program time so as to get to and from work. For an extra fee this can be arranged.
