Grow Cut Flowers — Autumn

A Practical Introduction to Growing Sustainable Cut Flowers

By Poppy & Fern | 20 & 21 March 2026

Grow Cut Flowers, Autumn is a hands-on, two-day workshop designed to introduce you to growing your own sustainable cut-flower garden through the cooler months.

Held during one of the most powerful planting windows of the year in Northern NSW, this workshop focuses on autumn sowing for winter and early spring abundance. As the heat softens and the soil settles, conditions become ideal for establishing cool-season annuals that deliver strong stems and long flowering windows.

Led by Jess Connor of Poppy & Fern, this practical workshop is ideal for beginners, home gardeners and anyone wanting to bring more homegrown beauty into their everyday life.

What You’ll Learn

  • The best cool-season flowers to plant in autumn, including snapdragons, stock, sweet peas, poppies and more

  • How to prepare healthy soil and create productive growing beds

  • Starting seeds with confidence, without guesswork

  • Planning autumn successions to keep flowers coming for months

  • Protecting young plants as the weather cools

  • Harvesting techniques for long vase life

  • How to plan your space for winter and early spring abundance

All techniques are demonstrated step by step and designed to be approachable for all experience levels.

Why Autumn Matters

Cool-season flowers establish beautifully when planted in autumn, resulting in stronger plants, longer flowering periods and better overall performance through winter.

You’ll leave with a clear planting plan, a tray of freshly sown seeds and the confidence to get everything into the ground straight away.
