WEDNESDAY 8 FEBRUARY 2023
9am – 3pm | $130 | ages 5 to 12 yrs.
The Farm Kids program is an inclusive space welcoming children aged 5-12. Children are immersed in fun opportunities where they will explore, create and meet new friends. Friendships are nurtured and will flourish as both teachers and children become a team to learn, play and discover. Children will enjoy both indoors and outdoors throughout the day.
This Term our educational focus will be to take a closer look at what food is grown on The Farm and others throughout Australia. Throughout the term children will learn about various sustainable farming methods such as permaculture, biodynamic farming, food forests, crop rotation, heirloom seeds, natural pest management and mulching and manual weed control. We discuss topics of planting with the seasons, companion planting, composting, worm farms and how to build and maintain healthy soil. Each week, will see a new food group topic where children will gain a deeper understanding of different life cycles of those plants including the pollination, germination, propagation, planting, harvesting processes and nutritional benefits. Each topic is matched to a set of engaging and creative craft and cooking activities.
Children will be encouraged to get into our garden plot regularly to get their hands dirty. They will be responsible for planting, caring for, maintaining and harvesting from our garden. Teachers will facilitate respectful communication, rich learning opportunities and lots of fun through play.
