We start the workshop with an educational, hands on and fun tour of The Farm where we specifically search for and focus our discussion on Bees. We talk about the importance of bees, different species, job roles, honey, wax and the dynamics of a busy working hive. In craft we make beeswax candles and lip balm.
Discussion
The importance of Bees and the plight they are facing! What we can do to help.
Various types of hives and spotting these amazing little creatures.
Different bee species and how to identify them. We discuss the job roles of the queen bee, the drone and the worker.
Bee facts including honey, wax & propolis production and the dynamics of a busy working hive.
Medicinal properties of honey and bees wax.
Pollination and how important human’s relationship with bees is to ensure production and food security.
Traditional apiarist equipment and try on the bodysuit.
How traditional & flow hives work and examine the tools the beekeeper uses.

WHAT TO BRING
Children will need:
Sturdy walking shoes
Raincoat
Sunhat
Healthy lunch box and water bottle for the day
Backpack (to carry above)
All items need to be labelled
WHERE TO MEET
We will meet at the Farm House opposite the restaurant. Please look out for the signs to guide you.
AGES
These workshops are appropriate for children aged 5 and older. If your child is 4 they can come with siblings and you will need to remain onsite at The Farm. Children as old as 15 have enjoyed our workshops. Checkout our Mini Farmers program if you want a full day working farm experience.
