At the beginning of each workshop we take the children on an educational and fun tour of The Farm. We educate them about our cows, pigs, bees, chickens, flower crops, herb garden, orchard and veggie crops. We discuss concepts like paddock rotation for the animals, pollination, organic farming, healthy soil and composting and other ethical farming practices. The children get up close and personal with our pet chickens and when available we taste veggies, edible flowers and herbs.
Discussions
Our Farm tour focus is on collecting, smelling, tasting and discussing edible herbs, leaves and foods whose purpose is flavouring food and drinks, but can also act medicinally.
We discuss growing, infusing, extracting and drying various herbs.
Activities
We make sage infused butter and rosemary salt for the kids to take home using various herbs from the garden
Make a drink with natural flavours found from the garden
WHAT TO BRING
Children will need:
Sturdy walking shoes
Raincoat
Sunhat
Healthy lunch box and water bottle for the day
Backpack (to carry above)
All items need to be labelled
WHERE TO MEET
We will meet at the Farm House opposite the restaurant. Please look out for the signs to guide you. (If coming from QLD, please be aware of time difference during day light savings!)
AGES
These workshops are appropriate for children aged 5 and older. If your child is 4 they can come with siblings and you will need to remain onsite at The Farm. Children as old as 15 have enjoyed our workshops. Checkout our Mini Farmers program if you want a full day working farm experience.
