Discussion
We go on a lady bug hunt in the farm gardens. We investigate what it is they are eating, watch the little guys hard at work and investigate why companion planting helps our garden to grow without pesticides.
We find out many fun and amazing facts about lady bugs.
Discuss natural ways to fertilise and spray the bad bugs that will not kill lady bugs.
We discuss what beneficial bugs are and just how important they are for our eco-system
We discuss and list what types of plants and parts of plants attract certain bugs.
Activities
Paint a little lady bug pot and plant bug attracting flower seeds in it to take home.
Make a large ladybug pot for the farmkids garden plot and plant ladybug attracting plants in it.
Make a natural insecticide that is gentle on the ladybugs.. spray the Farmkids garden.
WHAT TO BRING
Children will need:
Sturdy walking shoes
Raincoat
Sunhat
Healthy lunch box and water bottle for the day
Backpack (to carry above)
All items need to be labelled
WHERE TO MEET
We will meet at the Farm House opposite the restaurant. Please look out for the signs to guide you.
AGES
These workshops are appropriate for children who are interested in farming, energetic and willing to work. 5yrs to 15yrs.
EXTRA SERVICE
If you are a working parent please discuss with the Farm Kids Manager if you need your child to start early or finish later than the designated program time so as to get to and from work. For an extra fee this can be arranged.
