Meet The Makers: Jess at Poppy & Fern

With only 200 metres from seed to vase, Jess, founder of Poppy & Fern, redefines floristry with

blooms as fresh, local, and thoughtfully grown as they come—right here at The Farm. Jess plans

each season carefully, cultivating flowers and crafting colour palettes with special attention to

events like Valentine’s.

Her commitment to the “slow flower movement” contrasts with conventional floristry, where

most flowers are imported and chemically treated. At Poppy & Fern, every bloom is either

grown on-site or sourced from neighbouring farms, creating a truly eco-conscious, transparent

floral experience.

Jess is also an open book when it comes to sharing her sustainable floristry practices. She

doesn’t keep her methods a secret; instead, she founded the Byron Bay Flower School to

welcome others into the world of eco-friendly floristry. Her courses reflect her values, focusing

on foam-free, single-use-plastic-free techniques and prioritising locally grown flowers. Whether

students are looking for a new hobby or dreaming of a career in sustainable floral design, Jess’s

classes offer a full Seed-to-Vase experience that celebrates the beauty of nature and

craftsmanship.
