We have now officially stepped into Autumn and although the change in season is not always immediately noticeable in sub-tropical Byron Shire, nature still gently signals us to start preparing for the winter months. We love the changes that the new season brings.
Christmas is just days away and we are all feeling the joy and excitement of the season and the hope that it signifies. We are also feeling the warmth of Summer. Our growers are working early mornings and late afternoons to avoid the heat of the midday sun.
Spring has sprung and the paddocks here at The Farm have started to show the first signs of the warmer weather. Little flower heads are beginning to push through the dry soil and we are contemplating the thought of a rain dance to help our exhausted overworked irrigation system.
It’s officially winter, one of our favourite seasons here at The Farm. We love that the cool nights justify the lighting of our cosy fire pit. There’s nothing better than having a drink with colleagues on a Friday afternoon huddled in front of the warming flames at the end of the work week…
The Easter break and school holiday period was a busy time here at The Farm. A number of families chose to spend time at The Farm roaming the macadamia orchard, exploring the growing plots and enjoying the delicious food on offer. For the younger visitors we also held our annual Easter egg hunt and ran our highly popular kids’ workshops…
This month we celebrated 2 years of ‘Grow, Feed, Educate’ and the opening of the gates at The Farm. It was a great time for reflection on all The Farm community have achieved in this short time. We are proud of all that has been grown on our soils and eaten in the restaurant, not to mention the lives that have been touched by some of our community projects...
Over the last week Tom and myself took part in a Trek across Tasmania to raise money and awareness for Aussie farmers on behalf of the Farm to Fork initiative for Landcare Australia. This was the first of its kind for Landcare and collectively the group raised $15,000 that will go towards helping to fund sustainable farming initiatives. We visited a diverse range of farms growing a variety of produce from oysters, saffron and even using the whey from sheeps milk to make vodka. The underlying Aussie spirit of 'giving it a go' shone through…
We are already into February, the school holidays are over, it's time to move on with 2017. We are busy at The Farm discussing and laying down plans for the year and checking that we continue to be in line with our values and philosophy to ensure we are on track to deliver a year of interest and growth all wrapped up with our "Grow, Feed, Educate" mission…
Time ticks away so fast. It’s hard to believe that Christmas is here again and this will be our second festive season here on The Farm. So much has happened this year and we have a lot to be thankful for from 2016…
As we near the end of November (where has this year gone?) the anticipation of Christmas is well and truly upon us. The hectic energy of festive season can bring out the worst and best in us all. It's wonderful if we can go back to the principle of giving at this time of year as this is really what it's all about. Being conscious of those in less fortunate positions, forgiving an enemy and finding ways to open your hearts over the holiday period…
Our intention with opening The Farm has always been to give back to a community and a place that we love and have enjoyed with our children over many years. In essence we have provided 80 acres of 'farmland' for locals and visitors to enjoy and utilise and a platform to explore and ponder our 'grow, feed, educate' and give back philosophy…
Spring has sprung and we all have a skip in our steps especially after taking home The Ethical Business Award 2016 from The Business Chamber Awards last Saturday night. We pride ourselves here at The Farm for our work ethics and values and we invite you to not only read some of the highlights of our ethical achievements over the past year below but also to jump onto our website…
