Mini Farmers Program

Farm Kids Mini Farmers Program

15th JANUARY 2019

9am–3pm, $130 per child per day, ages 7 to 15 yrs

The kids become mini farmers and get set to work doing farm chores; we collect eggs and clean and prepare them for sale. We restock our pet chickens bedding, ensure they have fresh drinking water and clean out their chookie house. We collect manure for compost for the market garden. If the opportunity arises, we assist the farmers with their chores. They cook, create and see where their food comes from as well as experience countless opportunities to learn about teamwork, community, and ethical farming practices.

What is included?

Our Mini Farmers Program introduces children to real life farming. They get their hands dirty and work along-side real farmers.

Farm Chores

Each day we collect eggs from our black chickens, we clean and prepare them for sale, as well as restock their bedding. We restock our pet chickens bedding, ensure they have fresh drinking water and clean out their chookie house. We collect manure for compost for the market garden. If the opportunity arises, we assist the farmers with their chores.

If there are tasks available, we work alongside the farming team from the community group Liberation Larder on their market garden and learn how proper nurturing leads to healthy food production for families in need in our community. (Tasks will vary depending on what is needed to do at The Farm)

Cooking

Morning tea – We make drinks with fresh ingredients from the garden, a fruit platter and make wholesome dips with organic farm fresh ingredients.

We make Butter, Pesto or Nut Butter from scratch to put on our Freshly Baked Bread for lunches.  We cook our lunch from organic, fresh ingredients ranging from Veggie Pancakes, to Potato Rosti, Burrito Bowls or Veggie Pasta.  The children do the cooking!!

Creating

If time permits we make lip balm, bath bombs, beeswax wraps and cute little soaps to take home out of natural products and a mini herb garden which the kids can replant at home to start their very own garden. (Activities can change depending on the group of children)

Rest and Play

Of course we let the kids have breaks and rest throughout the day.
